Notably, Gina Raimondo is the first female to be elected governor of Rhode Island. In addition, according to her campaign Nellie Gorbea is the first Hispanic candidate to win a statewide office in New England.

The gubernatorial race was specifically interesting. Excluding Lincoln Chafee, Raimondo won with the fewest number of votes since 1930. A message was sent to both parties when voters gave Healey 21% of the popular decision.
